107.1 K-HITS 3rd Anniversary Birthday Bash Featuri
April 21, 2005
TACO BELL ARENA- will set the stage for the K-HITS 3rd Anniversary Birthday Bash concert on June 10th at 7:30pm featuring 70’s rock band America.
The members of America met on a US Air force base in England, where their parents were stationed. The trio first formed in 1971, and decided to name the band after their homeland, America. In 1977 Dan Peek left the band to pursue a solo career.
America’s best known tunes include ‘70s hits such as: “Horse with No Name”, “Sister Golden Hair”, “Ventura Highway”, “Don’t Cross the River”, “Tin Man”, “From a Moving Train” and the ‘80s chart buster “You Can Do Magic”. All of which became staples on Top 40 radio.
America made a free and easy music that rocked with earthy tones and vibrant vocal harmonies, often compared to Crosby, Stills, and Nash.
America is best known as part of the “California sound,” a description that spoke more about where musicians in the early Seventies hung their hats as opposed to where they honed their musical chops.
America has now recorded together for three decades, and their plethora of hits have been compressed into the three-disc box “Highway: Thirty Years of America”, which has sold over four million copies. It’s an appropriate title, after three decades the group is no longer wandering the desert on a horse with no name.
